Uploading Downloadable Files

Digital products on Sokobuni work by attaching a file to a product. When a customer purchases, they receive a secure, time-limited download link by email and in their account.

How digital delivery works

  1. Customer purchases the digital product
  2. Payment is confirmed
  3. Platform generates a secure download URL (valid for 5 minutes)
  4. Customer receives an email with the link
  5. Customer can also find the download in My Account → Digital Products

The download link regenerates each time the customer clicks it — they're never locked out even if a link expires.

Supported file types

You can upload any file type: PDF, ZIP, MP3, MP4, EPUB, PSD, DOCX, PNG, etc. There's no restriction on format.

File size limit: 500MB per file
Recommended max: 200MB for fast download experience

💡Tip

For large files (videos, high-res asset packs), consider compressing into a ZIP. This reduces upload time and download size.

Creating a digital product

1
Create a new product as normal
Go to Products → New product. Fill in the title, description, and category as you would for any product.
2
Set the product type to "Digital"
In the product settings panel on the right, look for "Product type" and select or type "Digital". This signals to the platform that no shipping is required.
3
Add variants without shipping
When creating variants, make sure "Requires shipping" is set to off. Digital products don't need shipping addresses at checkout.
4
Attach the downloadable file
Scroll to the "Digital Files" section (below Media). Click "Upload file" and select your file. The upload progress bar shows the percentage complete.
5
Set download limits and expiry
Configure how many times a customer can download the file (default: 3) and whether download links expire. See the Download Limits guide for details.
6
Publish the product
Set status to Published and save. The product is now live and digital delivery is fully automated.

Multiple files per product

You can attach multiple files to a single digital product. For example, a music album product could include:

  • album-tracks.zip (all MP3 files)
  • liner-notes.pdf
  • album-art.png

All files are delivered together when the customer purchases.

Updating the file after purchase

If you update the file (e.g. release a new version), existing customers who already purchased will get the updated file when they download again. Their download link always points to the latest version.

🔥Important

If you're releasing a significantly different version (e.g. v2.0), consider creating a new product variant for it so customers who bought v1 aren't confused.
