Your First Product
This guide walks you through creating a product from scratch and making it live on your storefront. It takes about 5 minutes.
What we'll create
A simple physical product with one variant, a price, and a product image placeholder.
💡Tip
This walkthrough uses a physical product. For digital downloads or services, the steps are similar — see the dedicated guides linked at the end.
Step-by-step
1
Open Products in the sidebar
Click "Products" in the left sidebar. You'll see your product catalogue — empty if this is a new store.
2
Click "New product"
Hit the "+ New product" button in the top-right. The product creation form opens.
3
Fill in the basics
Enter a Title (e.g. "Handmade Ceramic Mug"), a short Description, and select a Category if you have one set up. The Handle (URL slug) auto-generates from the title.
4
Add a variant
Scroll to "Variants". Click "Add variant". For a simple product with no options, just set the price directly. For products with sizes or colors, create options first (see the Variants guide).
5
Set the price
Under the variant, enter the price in your store's currency. Prices are entered as whole numbers — for example, enter 2500 for KSh 2,500 or $25.00 depending on your store's currency.
6
Upload a product image
Scroll to "Media". Drag and drop an image or click to upload. Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP. Max size: 10MB. If you don't have an image yet, you can skip this and add it later.
7
Set the status to Published
In the top-right panel, change the status from "Draft" to "Published". Only published products appear on your storefront.
8
Click Save
Hit "Save" (top-right). Your product is now live. Visit your storefront to confirm it appears.
Verify it worked
Go to your storefront URL and search for your product title, or browse the catalogue. You should see it appear within a few seconds of saving.
🔥Important
If your store uses Algolia search, newly created products are indexed automatically after a short delay (usually under 30 seconds). If the product doesn't appear in search, trigger a manual sync from your Algolia settings page in the admin panel.
