Kenya County Rates
If your store is configured for the Kenyan market, customers select their county at checkout and pay the shipping rate for their delivery tier — rather than a single flat rate for the whole country.
The three shipping tiers
| Tier | Counties | Typical rate |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 — Nairobi & surroundings | Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos | KSh 300 |
| Tier 2 — Central & nearby | Nakuru, Meru, Embu, Nyeri, Muranga, Kajiado, and others | KSh 500 |
| Tier 3 — Outlying regions | Coast, Western, Nyanza, North Eastern, and remote counties | KSh 800 |
The county list covers all 47 official Kenya counties. The exact tier assignment is set when the store is configured.
County-based shipping is only active on stores configured for the Kenyan market. If you don't see a county selector at checkout, your store uses standard flat-rate shipping instead.
How the customer experiences it
At checkout, the address form shows a County dropdown. When the customer selects their county, the shipping cost updates immediately based on the tier.
Configuring rates in the admin
The shipping tiers are set as shipping options in your Kenya region:
- Go to Settings → Regions → Kenya
- Open Shipping options
- You'll see three options (Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3) with their respective prices
- To change a rate, click the option and update the price
Reclassifying a county
The county-to-tier assignment is part of the storefront configuration. To move a county from one tier to another, contact your platform administrator — it requires a code change to the county data file.
Adding extra shipping options
You can add additional options alongside the tiered rates — for example, "Nairobi Express (Same Day)" at a premium price:
- Open the Kenya region
- Click Add shipping option
- Name it and set the price
- Save — customers in Nairobi will see it as an additional choice alongside the county-based rate
